Thrilling, not for the faint hearted, The highest and longest zipline in South America – Cola de Mono – now offered by Apus Peru Adventure Travel Specialists! This zipline totally gets your heart racing and your pulse pumping!

Check it out:

Cola de Mono Canopy (Zipline/Flying Fox) is an adventure activity in which participants are harnessed and attached by pulley to a cable anchored to two different mountains. They slide from one mountain to the other fast enough to feel like they are flying.

This Canopy is Peru’s first, and South America’s highest. There are 2500 m of cables in six sections. The longest ride or section is 400m long, and the highest is 150m high. A steep 30 minute climb up, has you 250metres above the Canyon, and the ziplines have you finishing at the bottom of the Valley.  The maximum speed reached on the cables is 60 km/h.

Unlike other canopy zip lines where you are gliding over forest canopy, this zip line has you leaping out over a raging river canyon, balancing on small platforms, and also participating in some basic rock climbing (up a vertical rope and metal ladder) – of about 30 metres, with a 150 metre drop below to the Rio Sacsara.
Location: Cola de Mono Canopy is located 2km from the town of Santa Teresa, in the Sacsara Valley, approximately 15km from Machu Picchu pueblo.
Just a 10 minute drive out of St Teresa, you leave at about 9 am and return around midday, in time to catch the Hydroeletric train to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon.

Cost $55 per person (price 2010)

Includes: all equipment, safety equipment, instructional talk.

Bookings
Apus Peru is offering the Cola de Mono Zipline tour as a complement to our Salkantay, and Choquequirao to Machu Picchu treks. As it is an extra activity, the associated costs with the tour will be assumed by the client and we can only offer this activity if time within the trekking itinerary permits. (Sometimes clients do not arrive to Santa Theresa until late in the day – too late to do the activity). If you REALLY want to do the activity you should communicate this to Apus Peru upon booking your trek.
