trip description

We take a public bus to the small village of Lamay, almost lost to the modern day progress of the more touristed towns. From here we start our hike to Huchuy Qosqo (literally small Cusco). The path is quite steep for about an hour, we are, after all, climbing out of the Sacred Valley! We traverse a rugged canyon and the views are quite breathtaking.

Huchuy Qosqo is believed to have been an Royal Inca Estate of the Inca Viracocha and perhaps the final resting place of this revered Inca. There are some well preserved buildings and for those with energy, a tantalizing building sits perched high above the main ruin site.

Clouds often swirl around Huchuy Cusco and this is an excellent place to appreciate the beauty of the Sacred Valley. From Huchuy Qosqo we descend via another route through farmland to the pretty village of Calca.

From Calca, we will take a taxi uphill to the hot springs of Macha Cancha, where we can soak our weary bones for an hour before heading back to the village
