No Frills Adventure Trekking Tours
Apus Peru are the alternative trekking specialists in Cusco – we pioneered many of these routes and are the local operator who runs the most adventurous options frequently, like the Choquequirao to Machu Picchu trek or the Ausangate Sibinacocha trek.
The further Apus Peru have entered the world of certified eco tourism, fair trade travel and ensuring our staff are properly paid, we have realised that “eco friendly” and environmentally conscious travel tends toward the mid to upper Price range.
We strongly feel that all travellers, whether they are backpackers on a shoestring or people who prefer a rugged trekking experience, should have the opportunity to do our innovative and creative treks.
We would like that these treks and adventures are more financially accessible -so are offering a once-a-month No Frills Featured Adventure Trek. To make these treks possible we need to get a minimum of 6 people.
We are also planning to add an “exploratory” element to these treks. We have got ideas of new detours, routes and activities on many of our treks that we would like to “try out.” This may not always happen on these “No Frills” routes, but it is a possibility.
Ways that the No Frills Treks are the same as our standard treks.
- We pay our guides, cooks and muleteers the same as we do on our other treks, and they provide the high standard of service they always do.
- Safety is not compromised: we use the same level of transport and the same first aid and oxygen kits.
- We provide an Emergency Riding Horse.
- $15 of your Trek Price is donated to Threads of Peru
- The same attentive, and high quality Customer Service via email and in Cusco.
- You trek with a Rainforest Alliance verified company.
- We encourage you to book as early as possible to assist us with staff planning and schedules.
For the ways that No Frills Treks vary from our Standard treks please see below.
BOOKING CONDITIONS
- There is no sliding scale for this tour, it’s a standard price.
- No discounts, and no travel agents! ISIC discounts available.
- Minimum 6, maximum 16.
- BOOKINGS CLOSE 7 DAYS PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. No exceptions.
- No upgrades/flexibility. We normally give clients the chance to upgrade their tours or provide preferences for trains/hotels. No Frills tours are cheap, and therefore not customizable.
- If you make a deposit and the group does not reach minimum size, then we will either refund your deposit (some Paypal fees will come out of this refund) or transfer your deposit to one of our other standard treks. Either way, Apus Peru takes no responsibility for you needing to pay more on one of our standard treks, or needing to make last minute arrangements with ourselves or another company.

PRICE PER PERSON: $495.00

- Bus Ticket in local bus (ie ET Power). This is not a tourist bus, it does not stop along the way.
- 1 night accom & meal in basic accommodation in Puno.
Extras
- $5 per day for a 7kg duffel bag to be carried on a mule. This can include your sleeping bag.
- Equipment, as per our normal hire rates.
Ways that the No Frills Treks are different than our standard treks.
- No Frills treks operate only on fixed dates and for the routes stated. We do not offer them for shorter routes, or on demand.
- We allow a “tighter” meal allowance, so meals will be simpler and perhaps smaller. If eating in restaurants we will select a more basic meal option.
- Pachamanca (typical Andean barbecue, cooked over hot stones) is not included on routes where it normally is.
- Group size: Minimum six, maximum 16.
- Only one guide & emergency riding for the entire group, no matter how many people trek. (we normally provide a second guide and horse after 8 in the group).
- There is no included baggage allowance. You need to carry all your things, including your sleeping bag.
- Basic Equipment that is on the “older” end of the spectrum of our serviceable, operational items.
- Train timetables. On our Standard treks we use a mix of Vistadome and Expedition train services so that our clients are travelling at the best possible times to suit their itineraries. However, in the no frills option we will purchase the CHEAPEST Expedition trains for you. These run at times like 5.30am and 9.30pm. This means if you take this option you will either be getting up early or going to bed very late, which tends to be uncomfortable/inconvenient.
- We normally include a ticket for your guide on the same train service as you, but on the No Frills tours your guide will go on the local train at a different time/lower price.
- Instead of a private transfer from Ollantaytambo back to Cusco, we will organise for you to go on a group bus. This usually drops people in Plaza San Francisco and you need to make your way to your own hotel.
- For treks that include Machu Picchu or the Hydroelectric train we do NOT include:
- Hydroelectric train ($18)
- Bus up and down to Machu Picchu ($15)
- Lunch on the final day ($12)
(You should take into consideration that we have included these things in our Standard tour because the majority of our clients require them. You might need to buy these separately when you are on the trail).
** As each trek is different, please refer to each trek’s Standard Trek page for the itinerary and also to this page for specific inclusions/exclusions**
