highlight: for inca enthusiasts and those with a real interest in Peru, this visit to Maukallacta & Puma Orqo is absolutely fascinating! trip description There are two myths about the origin of the Incas. The most well known has the founders of the Inca empire emerging from Lake Titicaca. The other myth is not in the least similar to the first and tells of four brothers emerging from a cave, known as Tampu Tocco. One of the brothers, Manco Capac, settled Cusco and became the first Inca. In this fascinating trip we venture deep into history and visit the Inca Ruins at Maukallacta and Puma Orqo. Some archaelogists say that these sites are actually the true location of Tampu Tocco and therefore the birthplace of the Inca Empire. As we are using public transport, we depart Cusco at 5am on a jam-packed bus full of locals returning to their homes. Don't be surprised if sheep are sharing the bus with you! We cross a pass, beautiful in the dawn light, and are dropped off at around 7am Huaynacancha to begin our hike to the ruins. Our uphill hike takes us to the ruins of Maukallacta, distinguished for their extensive nature and fine stonework. We continue through a traditional village, to Puma Orqo, an interesting rock outcrop carved by the Incas. We lunch at Puma Orqo before heading back to the village of Yaurisque by going cross country on a route used by shepherds. Arriving in Yaurisque, we will take local transport back to Cusco. itinerary Departure: 4.30 pickup from hotel Return: to your hotel approximately 4pm.
