Full itinerary -Peruvian Mountains

Day One - Lima

Arrival in Lima, transfer to your hotel. You have the afternoon free to explore the capital. Accommodation: Hotel Lima

Day Two – Cusco
You will take an early morning flight to Cusco, where you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your accomodation.

2pm City tour where we will visit the Temple of the Sun (Koricancha), the Cathedral and key plazas with a description of the history of Cusco. We will also visit Hatunrumiyoc street with its famous 12 angled stone.
5pm finish city tour

As this is your first day at high altitude we advise to take it easy upon arrival.

Accomodation: Cusco

Day 3: You have two options on this day - a horseriding tour of the Four Ruins or a tour with vehicles. We recommend the horse riding tour as an adventurous and interesting way to get out and experience the area around Cusco.

This 4 hour tour takes place in the northern outskirts of Cusco (a 15-minute car ride from the centre) and not only allows you to visit magnificent Inca sites but is also an amazingly peaceful tour - trotting along in the mountains surrounded by fantastic views over Cusco and the surrounding peaks. Inca sites visited include:
" Sacsayhuaman
" Qenqo
" Puca pucara
" Tambomachay (Water Temple)
This tour finishes at one o'clock, leaving you with the remainder of the day to enjoy Cusco.

In the evening (Tuesday through Saturday) tickets are included to the Peru Spectacular, Kusikay. Contemporary yet with historical elements, with spectacular costumes, vibrant Peruvian music and thrilling dance, Kusikay is without a doubt the best quality performance in Cusco ! Highly recommended as a way of understanding the power and importance of the Apus to the local people, done in a dramatic and exciting way! www.kusikay.com

Accommodation: Cusco

Day 4
Depending on your interests, you can take one of the following tours:

White water action: Rafting trip on Urubamba River.
Downhill mountain biking and culture: Chaywatiri 'weaving and farming' by bike
Hiking and culture: shapes of the past
Classic Sacred Valley tour: Visit Pisac, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Chincheros.
Relax: you will enjoy the restaurants and shopping of the Inca capital, Cusco

Accommodation: Cusco

Day 5
Day five - eight
You will depart on one of our highly recommended, off the beaten track four day treks that spend the fourth day in Machu Picchu

Suggestions are:
Lares and Machu Picchu, including a visit to the community of Chaullacocha
Tropical Inca Trail
Expreso Salkantay

Classic Inca Trail
*note given that you will be trekking in the high snowcapped peaks of the Huaraz region, our opinion is that the Lares and Machu Picchu or Inca Jungle treks provide greater differences in scenery.

On the fourth day of the tour you will have a guided visit of the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu and can appreciate the sunrise from the Inti Punku (the sun gate.) (Weather permitting). We return to Cusco in the afternoon by the train, arriving 4 hours after you leave Aguas Calientes. Accommodation: Hotel, Cusco

Day nine - Cusco
Relax and enjoy Cusco, do some last minute shopping *please note that this is literally a "floating" day in the itinerary and you can use it before your trek to do more in Sacred Valley or utilise it in some other way. Please discuss with us your options.

Day ten – Cusco to Huaraz
You will take a morning flight to Lima and then take a connecting flight onwards to Huaraz, where it is again advised that you take it easy while exploring this high altitude city. (You should be quite well acclimatized given that you have been in the Cusco region.

Day eleven – fourteen
During these four days you will take one of the treks through the spectacular Cordillera Blanca of Peru.
There are a range of different treks and options available, including

  • Santa Cruz to Llanganuco Trek
  • Quebrada Quillquayhunca trek
  • Various different itineraries according to your interests. For example, if you prefer not to camp on these nights, we can organize 4 different day trips where you will spend the evenings in hotels in either Caraz, or Huaraz.

Day fifteen - return to Lima
We can schedule your flight so you can make a connection to your international flight (make sure you have 3 hours in Lima airport between your arrival from Cusco and departure on your international flight).
If you are unable to make a connection will can organise your transfer to an inner city hotel and back to the airport in the morning. (extra cost)

NOTE: this is a fully customizable itinerary. If you have extra time, you can incorporate any of the following three day extensions:

  • Arequipa and the Colca Canyon
  • Puno and Lake Titicaca
  • Puerto Maldonado and the Tambopata jungle.
  • Trujillo and Huanchaco
