"The trip was very well organised, up to tiny details, excellent food with a lot of extras, they would have done everything for us :) I didn't like getting up very early much, but it was necessary I think."

Best of Peru 10 days - Trek Extension & Cultural immersion

Day One – Lima
Arrival in Lima , transfer to your hotel.
Note: Many flights arrive into Lima late in the day.  If this is your situation, and you have time, you may add another day, so you can experience Lima.

With an uninterrupted history of more than 2000 years, Lima is perhaps the most fascinating city in the continent.  Its nearly always passed over by guidebooks and other travellers, and yet we love Lima and encourage you to spend a day!  The culture and food in Lima is quite different than other parts of Peru and this gastronomic tradition warrants a least a day!
Not included in the price, but highly recommended are one of the following tours. Please ask us for more information, or to extend your stay in Lima one night so you have time to do one of these.

  • Classic Lima City Tour (by car, with other people)
  • Culinary or Taste Walking tour (walking, private)
  • Lima by Night (by car, with other people)
  • Colonial & 20th Century Architecture of Central Lima (walking, private)
  • Visit to Pachcamac Ruins and Hacienda Mamacona (Peruvian Paso Horses)

Standard: Antigua Miraflores or Casa Inca
Standard Plus: Casa AndinaPrivate Collection
Deluxe:  Miraflores Park Orient Express.

Day Two - Lima to Cusco
You will be transferred from your hotel to the Jorge Chavez airport in Lima where you will then fly to Cusco. You will be picked up at the airport, and transferred to your central Cusco hotel. Once you have settled in, you will have a 3 hour city tour to orient you in Cusco.
This three hour City tour gives you a great orientation to the city of Cusco, so you can get a feel for the principal sites and areas of interest! This is a gentle walking tour, suitable for all fitnesses.
The tour will start with a pickup at your hotel (so the order of visits may vary depend on where your hotel is).  Principal sites to visit are the Coricancha and the Cathedral.  The Coricancha (the golden enclosure) was the most important religious centre in Inca times. Nowadays it is also the Santo Domingo Convent. Your tour will explore both Inca history and the history of the conquest.   From here, we will visit The Cathedral, in which the first stone was placed in 1560. This marvel of the religious art possesses approximately 300 paintings of the Cusqueña School.

Standard: Andenes al Cielo or Andariego
Standard Plus: Casa San Blas or Second Home Cusco
Deluxe: Inkaterra La Casona or Casa Cartagena

Day Three -  Cusco – Sacsayhuaman – Awanacancha – lunch in Pisaq- Ollantaytambo

You will start early, being picked up from your hotel in transferred to the spectacular fortress ruins of Sacsayhuaman above the city for a guided tour and views over Cusco.

Next stop is Awanacancha - a weaving center with the goal to keep alive the traditional textile arts.  Here you can meet four members of the camelid family - llama, alpacas, vicunas and guanacos.  Alpacas have thick wool and is the most commonly used while the vicunas are small and delicate with fur considered the finest.

From here we will continue onto the the village of Pisaq and the Pisaq Ruins.  The Pisac ruins are some of the finest and largest in the entire valley. Despite the excellent condition of many of the structures, little is conclusively known about the site's actual purpose. It appears to have been part city, part ceremonial center, and part military complex. It might have been a royal estate of the Inca emperor (Pachacútec). It was certainly a religious temple, and although it was reinforced with the ramparts of a massive citadel, the Incas never retreated here to defend their empire against the Spaniards (and Pisac was, unlike Machu Picchu, known to Spanish forces).

After visiting the ruins, we will descend to the village of Pisaq, famous for its market, where hundreds of stalls crowd the central square -- marked by a small church, San Pedro el Apóstolo, and massive pisonay trees. After lunch at one of the eateries around the Plaza, you will have about an hour to do some souvenir shopping before heading through the Sacred Valley, lush and beautiful.

You will have a guided tour of Ollantaytambo ruins before checking into your Ollantaytambo hotel.

Standard: El Albergue, Standard Room
Standard Plus: El Albergue, Superior room
Deluxe: Tambo del Inka or Sol y Luna  (both located in Urubamba, not in Ollantaytambo)

Day Four - Depending on your interests, you have the choice of the folowing two tours:

Peruvian Paso Horses in the Sacred Valley
Discover the magic of riding a Peruvian Paso Horse, which because of its unique gait is considered the best saddle horse in the world. We invite you to live this experience, whether you are a horseman or a horsewoman, with all the Peruvian style and tradition.

Visit to the weaving village of Rumira Sondormayo (ex Sacred Valley or ex Cusco)
From Ollantaytambo we will have an approximately 1 hour drive up hill deep into the mountains above the Sacred Valley. We will visit the village of Rumira Sondormayo, which is one of three villages that the NGO Threads of Peru works with on weaving revitalization with the women.
