Lares by Bicycle 2 Days

This tour will take you downhill from the lares pass to the town of lares, camping at the hot springs surrounded by mountains, and then visiting a little known weaving community.

This region is rich for adventure, and criss crossed with paths and routes used by the local folk. On the Lares Valley trek, women and children continue to wear traditional clothing, of bright red and its varying shades of natural dyes, oranges and pinks. This is one place in Peru where people continue to wear traditional Peruvian clothing.

This bicycle adventire is sometimes known as the 'Weaver's Way' or the Weavers Trail. The Lares bicycle tour is a wonderful way to immerse yourself into Peruvian culture.

Lares By Bicycle - Full Itinerary

DAY ONE: After you have had breakfast, we will collect you from your hotel early in the morning and we will then drive over to the Sacred Valley where we will have a short break and opportunity to have a snack in the traditional village of Calca before heading uphill towards the interesting Inca ruins of Ancasmarca with views of the surrounding valley. Just after the Abra de Lares Abra of Lares (Lares Pass (4400m))., will we get out of the vehicle and get fitted up for our downhill mountain descent to the town of Lares (3200m). Two routes are available making it suitable for all levels of experience. We pass through alpaca pastures and typical Andean villages and past waterfalls and have a boxed lunch in route, at an appropriate time.

We will pass through Lares before heading a few kilometres through town to the Lares Hot Springs where we will set up our tents on the grass and then have a well deserved soak in the hot springs.

DAY TWO: After breakfast we will get on our bikes again and head back into Lares, which, with its few streets can only be described as picturesque! A 2 hour downhill ride towards the jungle brings us to the foot of a small steep path, climbing up to the friendly village of Choquecancha (3200m). Local weavers offer beautiful hand made weavings, while the main square is lined by an impressive 14 niched inca wall. Our private transport will then collect us and return back to the Sacred valley over the Lares Pass. If you are so inclined, and there is time, we can stop for another soak in Hot Springs, this time at Matacancha.

From here we return to Cusco, a drive of about 1-2 hours.

Mountain bike, helmet and gloves
Tents - 2 people in a 4 person tent which allows for greater comfort, and also storage of backpacks. All tents were purchased in 07/08.
Basic foam mattress. If you require greater comfort during the trek we can hire you an inflatable mattress (eg. Thermarest) for $5 per day.

First aid kit including emergency oxygen bottle
