(there are a number of unique Sacred Valley options for this day, please ask your Travel Consultant for more information).

Day 4 - 30 December
Short Inca Trail or Alternative trekking experience
If you are short of time, and can’t do the 4 day Classic Inca Trail, then we highly recommend doing the Short Inca Trail. As this is typically a wet and rainy time of the year, camping can be a bit uncomfortable – therefore this trek is ideal as you hike for a day and then stay in Aguas Calientes during the evening.

As at 17th November 2011, there are 232 permits left for 30th December. However each year is different, so if you are sure you want to do this tour, you should book as early as possible.
If you miss out on Inca Trail permits, then we recommend that you do this tour, taking the train to Machu Picchu on the afternoon of the 30th December.

Machu Picchu/ Cusco / New Year’s Eve Celebrations (Peru style)
Today we will be amongst the first people at Machu Picchu, at sunrise. We will then take a 3 hour guided tour and visit all the key points. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the site, taking the 14.55 Expedition train back to Cusco. (you will arrive around 7pm in Cusco)
** Note, if you preferred to pass the New Year close to Machu Picchu then we can organise for you to spend an extra night in Aguas Calientes, and then visit Machu Picchu again, early in the New year.
Like all parts of the world, the New Years Eve party in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco is a big one… get a spot on a balcony to watch the fireworks, or perhaps join the melee in the plaza. Its quite an impressive cultural spectacle – you will not forget your New Year in Peru quickly!
