Styles of Travel

At Apus Peru - we love to travel, experiencing different places, sights, sounds and tastes. People that travel with us share a common philosophy, that travellers should 'tread lightly' and be respectful of the places they visit. They also believe that in order to experience Peru and its wonderful people, you need to get out there and off the beaten track.

Yet, while Apus Peru travellers have this in common, they also have different time frames for their journeys or different expecations of food, accomodation and travel services.

For this reason Apus Peru have created custom designed, tailor made Peru tours for the discerning, off the beaten track traveller, featuring Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Inca Trail. Our itineraries are developed to inspire and can be purchased as presented, or you can add and take pieces so that they suit your needs.

The Travel Styles, as described below mean that you are able to take the same itinerary and make it meet your expecations of what your holiday should be like!

Apus Peru Styles of Travel

Apus Peru create sensitive, thoughtful itineraries which are designed to get the traveller off the beaten track and in contact with the real Peru.   We combine the famous, unmissable sights, like Machu Picchu, Cusco city and Sacred Valley ruins like Ollantaytambo and Pisaq with detours to lesser known places. These authentic spots, away from the gringo trail, enable you to connect with social projects, and little known Peruvian communities. Where possible, we take you to visit local festivals, and create itineraries around these colourful, spectacular and truly memorable occasions.

While on holiday we understand that you want to experience with all your senses, not only the sights that Peru is famous for, but the sounds of music and festivals.   Your tastebuds are in for a treat, as we take you to experience typical food, as well as the burgeoning Novo Andino cuisine. Truly touch Peru, by feeling llama wool or running your hands over their special weavings, or meeting with an indigenous weaver.

We realize that while many travellers want these experiences, they are limited by needing fixed departure dates for group tours, or particular styles of travel.

We offer the same high quality, innovative itineraries with different “Styles of Travel” which means that you can choose the type of adventure level that suits you, your family, or travelling companions best.

The elements that differentiate our four Styles of Travel are

  • Accommodation
  • Meals. The restaurants chosen for our included meals are selected based on a variety of criteria, the most important being great food!  There will be times when you will eat in touristy restaurants because this is the best option for the route and timing, other times when a small, local restaurant with personalized service and a great selection of wines or piscos might be chosen or even meals with local families who have been trained to cook for their foreign visitors.  From very traditional “picanterias” to gourmet “NovoAndino” restaurants we guarantee you the opportunity to experience authentic customs, flavours and ingredients while you visit Peru.
  • Standards of Trains to and from Machu Picchu.

Standard Travel

  • Full private service (ie all transfers and tours with private transport)

  • 3 star hotels – Our Standard Hotel options are modest, clean and in most cases have a good deal of character as we believe it’s important to stay in places that make you feel like you are in Peru!
