Choose one or more of the below options to customize your Lima Tours Extension:

1. Classic Lima City Tours (LE2-A)
Style: By car, private tour
Leaves daily at: 9 am or 1 pm
Duration:  4 hours

The best overview of Lima and its history with a visit to Lima’s top attractions from three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Modern.

      • Ancestral Lima: The tour starts with a panoramic view of the “Pucllana Pyramid” a magnificent ceremonial and archaeological center built in the 4th C AD and considered a “Sacred Village” by the Incas.
      • Colonial Lima: We then visit the Historical Center of Lima, where you will appreciate more than fifty monuments and colonial buildings, such as the Paseo de la República, the San Martín Square, the Main Square, the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Cathedral Basilica, and the City Council Palace amongst others. We will also visit the Museum of The Banco Central De Reserva (unless it is Saturday or Sunday, when it is closed), where we will admire the “Treasures of Peru” collection, a fine selection of objects made of gold, ceramics and textiles from different pre-Columbian cultures. After this, we visit the San Francisco Convent which houses the largest collection of religious art in America. Our highlight will be the visit of the underground vaults, known as “catacumbas” or catacombs.
      • Contemporary Lima: We will visit traditional residential areas of Lima, such as El Olivar of San Isidro, Miraflores and Larcomar, an interesting open-air mall situated along the seawall of this coastal city.

2. A Taste of Lima Walking Tour (LE2-B)
Style: On foot, private tour
Leaves daily at: 8:30 am. Meet at the Ovalo in Miraflores.

This walk explores the basis of Peruvian gastronomy. We begin by walking to the BioFeria in the Parque Reducto where we will have time to have look and also try some samples. From here, we head to Manuel Bonilla for a Peruvian coffee, a blend from Villarica, Chanchamayo and Jaén, at Il Cappuccino before we continue on to the market in Surquillo. After the market in we’ll have a decadent chocolate tasting at Xocolatl. Xocolatl produces a range of bonbons made of Peruvian cacao originating from Tarapoto. Our tour ends back at the Ovalo in Miraflores, where we started.

5. Colonial Architecture of Central Lima (LE2-D)
Style: On foot, private tour

The Historic Centre of Lima has been the seat of the Colonial and Republican governments since the Spanish founded the city in 1535 on top of an existing indigenous urban centre. Until the 1940s it was also the residential area for the country’s most influential families. This walking route passes all the important and some lesser-known official buildings, churches and houses, with attention to the different building styles and the typical balconies. We will look at more than 30 buildings in detail, including the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo, the Church of San Agustin, the Church of San Pedro, Casa Osambela and Casa Riva Agüero. A pisco sour in Hotel Maury or a coffee Tunki can be included.

6. Pachacamac and Peruvian Paso Horses (LE2-E)
Style: By car, private
Leaves daily at: by prior arrangement
Duration: 8 hours

Pachacamac was one of the largest religious centers on the Peruvian Coast. It is located about 30km south of Lima, virtually at the foot of the Pacific Ocean. According to archaeologists, Pachacamac was the most important pilgrimage center in ancient Peru, receiving hundreds of people from all over Peru at its height. Pachacamac contains various pyramids, temples and large plazas where visitors can enjoy a pleasant walk while exploring the site. The sanctuary also offers magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean as well as of the Lurin Valley nearby. In addition, visitors can visit the Museum of Pachacamac located inside the archaeological complex, which displays ancient remains found at the site.

In the afternoon you will visit a Peruvian Paso Horse stable to learn about these beautiful animals and this incredible cultural tradition, as well as have a chance to see them in action.
