Trek Extras & Extensions

We know the Andes like the back of our hand!

There are often variations that can be added into many of our routes to make them more adventurous or to suit your interests.

Yayamari Scramble Extension

Available on: Ausangate Sibinacocha 6D and Carabaya 9D.

Please contact us for pricing.

Extend this normally 6- or 9-day trek by one day and do a non-technical climb over loose volcanic rock up Cerro Yayamari (550m / 18,040ft). From our campsite at Yayamari, it is 4km to the base of the mountain where we start the scramble, a physically challenging activity that takes about 4 h to go up and 3 h to come back down. This is a tough, approximately 10h day, perfect for adventurous types looking for an additional challenge to an already-difficult hike.

Fishing in Ausangate

Available on: Ausangate Sibinacocha 6D and Carabaya 9D.

Please contact us for pricing.

Extend this normally 6-day or 9-day trek by one day and do some fishing in the high alpine lakes along the way, including Sibinacocha. Ask us for details!

Cola de Mono Zipline

Available on: any Salkantay trek or the Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Adventure 8D trek

Cost: $65. Includes zipline ride, all safety equipment, instructional talk, welcome beverage, guided tour and priority on the zipline cables.

This activity must be reserved at time of booking.

Not for the faint-hearted, the Cola de Mono Zipline is a thrilling, heart-pumping adventure activity! Fly through the air in a harness along a cable connecting two mountains on the highest and longest zipline in South America.

Located about 2km from Santa Teresa and 15km from Machu Picchu, the Cola de Mono zipline was the first of its kind in Peru. There are 2500m of cables in six sections. The longest section is 400m long and the highest is 150m high. It’s a steep 30-minute climb up to the starting point, some 250m above the Sacsara River below. You’ll reach speeds of up to 60 km/h as you zip along towards the bottom of the valley.

Unlike other ziplines where you are gliding over forest canopy, this zipline has you leaping out over a raging river canyon, balancing on small platforms, and also doing some basic rock climbing (up a vertical rope and metal ladder) – talk about adventure!  This is a challenging activity for many people.

The Cola de Mono zipline can be added to any Salkantay or the Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Adventure 8D trek. A 10-minute drive from Santa Teresa, we will leave at 9am and return around midday, in time to catch an afternoon train to Aguas Calientes.

Condor Lodge Excursion

Available on: Classic Choquequirao 4D, or, enjoy this Excursion on its own, departing from and returning to Cusco!

Please contact us for pricing.

You don’t have to travel all the way to Arequipa to see the majestic Andean condor! Two-day and three-day excursions are available to this stunning remote but beautifully equipped lodge. Read more about the Condor Lodge itinerary here.

Extra Day at Choquequirao Ruins

Available on: Classic Choquequirao 4D

Please contact us for pricing.

For the true history buffs! If you want more time to spend at these spectacular Inca ruins, this add-on gives you an extra day to explore and immerse yourself in Incan history before returning to Cusco on the Classic Choquequirao route.

Conoq Hotsprings

Available on: Classic Choquequirao 4D

Entrance fee not included.

On the last day of this 4-day trek, we can take a detour to the hot springs at Conoq, a little-known hot springs popular with the locals. After a luxurious and restorative soak, we will get back in our private car for the remaining 3-hour drive to Cusco. This add-on is free of charge but must be reserved at time of booking.
