Puno

Gateway to Lake Titicaca

The capital of the Puno region of Peru, the city of Puno is an interesting mix of Spanish-Colonial and indigenous cultures. Located on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Puno shares characteristics of other high Andean cities like Cusco and La Paz, Bolivia, and indigenous languages include both Quechua and Aymara.

Things to do in Puno

One of Puno’s key attractions is Lake Titicaca – the largest high altitude lake in the world, and famous for the man-made floating islands of Uros and the natural islands of Amantaní and Taquile, as well as the peninsula town of Llachón. All of these destinations are known for their community homestay programs, and Taquile has made a name for itself for its traditional textiles, including backstrap loom weaving and Andean knitting.

Address: Isla Suasi, 51 Suasi

The only private island on Lake Titicaca, Isla Suasi has been converted into an Eco Lodge which was formerly run by a professional hotel chain, and this experience was considered one of the best in Peru.
