Itinerary

Your family adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to Peru’s southern Amazon. From here, travel for approximately one hour by road before continuing with a scenic one-hour boat ride along the river. As you leave the city behind, watch the landscape transform into lush rainforest, with your first opportunities to spot wildlife along the riverbanks.

After reaching the riverbank, climb a staircase whose length varies depending on the season, followed by a short walk through the rainforest to your ecolodge. Located within a 9,500-hectare private reserve belonging to the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno, the lodge offers an immersive nature experience with the Tambopata National Reserve as its backdrop.

Settle into your spacious 45-square-meter room, featuring mosquito nets, a private bathroom and an open wall overlooking the forest. Your stay includes three meals daily, guided excursions, beverages and airport transfers, with a private guide and shared transportation.

In the afternoon, head into the treetops on an exciting excursion to the 42-meter canopy tower. Climb to the observation platforms together and enjoy spectacular views over the rainforest. Keep your eyes open for colorful birds and other wildlife moving through the canopy.

Before dinner, join an evening lecture led by the resident biologist. Discover how researchers study the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon and learn about the ongoing efforts to identify new species. It is a fascinating introduction to the rainforest for curious minds of all ages!

Your national flight needs to arrive before 12 noon to do this program.

Rise early for an exciting morning exploring the Amazon while wildlife is most active. Head to Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake, known for its resident family of giant river otters. Explore the lake and surrounding vegetation while looking for otters, birds, caimans and other fascinating wildlife. You may even spot piranhas in the water!

Return to the lodge for a refreshing break before continuing your rainforest adventure with a visit to a parrot clay lick. Learn about the behavior of these colorful birds and the importance of clay licks in their natural habitat. Afterwards, let your creativity shine by drawing your own parrot or macaw, inspired by the wildlife you have encountered.

Younger explorers can also enjoy dedicated play spaces near the main restaurant, offering a little time to relax and have fun between excursions.

In the afternoon, head to the riverbanks for a wildlife-tracking adventure. Keep your eyes open for capybaras and look for animal footprints in the mud. With a bit of luck, you might even discover signs of a jaguar passing through the area!

As night falls, venture into the rainforest to take part in the Discovering New Species Project. Explore the forest after dark with your guide and learn about the smaller creatures that often go unnoticed during the day. From insects to frogs and other fascinating rainforest inhabitants, this experience offers a closer look at the Amazon’s hidden biodiversity.

Enjoy your final morning in the rainforest before beginning the journey back to Puerto Maldonado. As your Amazon adventure comes to an end, take a moment to reflect on the wildlife, landscapes and experiences you have discovered over the past few days.

Your stay also contributes directly to the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno’s efforts to protect the Tambopata rainforest, connecting your journey with the conservation of this remarkable environment.

Travel back along the river and by road to Puerto Maldonado for your onward flight, taking home unforgettable memories of your time in the Peruvian Amazon.
