Cusco is famous for its Inca history and its role as the gateway to Machu Picchu, but what many travellers don’t expect is just how exceptional the city’s high-end hotel scene is. Tucked away behind colonial facades and historic palace walls, you’ll find some truly beautiful lodging options that manage to blend centuries of history with modern comfort and thoughtful service.
If you want to spoil yourself, your partner, or your family, choosing the right overnight experience in Cusco really matters. After a long journey or a hike to Machu Picchu, coming back to a calm and comfortable overnight experience can completely transform your experience.
Luxury Hotels in Cusco: Our List

Below, we share our favourite high-end establishments in Cusco – places we know well and genuinely love. From intimate properties with just a handful of suites to world class places offering spas, and heated pools, these are ideal choices if you are looking for something special.
Luxury Hotel Casa Cartagena

We’ve loved Casa Cartagena from the very first visit. It enjoys a fantastic location just off Plaza Nazarenas, only a short walk from the main square, yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful and private. This hideaway is set in a beautifully restored colonial mansion that has retained its historic charm on the outside, while the interiors tell a very different story. Inside, the spaces are sleek, modern and far from traditional colonial style.
Each room is individually designed, but all offer the same high level of comfort. Bathrooms are contemporary and impressively spacious, complete with every amenity you could need. With just 16 rooms in total, Casa Cartagena has an intimate feel that’s hard to find in the city centre.
Guests can choose between deluxe double or twin rooms, or opt for a Master or Presidential Suite. Some rooms feature two double beds, making them a great option for families. The suites also come with balconies overlooking the pool.
When our founder Ariana stayed here with her family, they booked two rooms: a very spacious master suite with a separate living area, and a second room with three individual beds for her children. They loved every aspect of their visit. Casa Cartagena feels like a calm, elegant oasis in the middle of a lively city, and its location makes exploring the city effortless.
The establishment also features an on site spa, a small outdoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. The spa includes a large hydromassage bath surrounded by loungers, perfect for unwinding after a day of sightseeing, as well as a selection of relaxing and restorative treatments.
Additional facilities include a bar, dining area, 24 hour reception, room service, airport transfers, a business centre and laundry service. The dining room serves a mix of international dishes and local specialities.

- Great location
- Professional, attentive staff
- Beautiful historic building
- Very comfortable rooms

Inkaterra La Casona

Inkaterra La Casona immediately makes an impression. The dramatic Spanish style building is arranged around a beautiful central patio framed by elegant arches, with marble floors, chandeliers and baroque columns throughout. It feels grand and atmospheric, yet never overwhelming.
Inkaterra properties are, overall, among our absolute favourites in Peru, and La Casona is no exception. This one has a fascinating history too – Simon Bolívar is said to have stayed here during his time in Peru. It was also the first Relais & Châteaux in the country, setting a benchmark for luxurious hospitality.
This exquisite 16th century Spanish colonial manor house sits just steps from the main square. Once occupied by Spanish conquistadors, it has been meticulously restored and transformed into an exclusive boutique place that preserves its historic character while offering refined comfort.
All accommodation is in spacious suites arranged around the tranquil patio. The low rise layout includes ground and first floor suites, available as doubles or twins, and creates a peaceful, intimate atmosphere in the heart of the city. The overall style is understated and elegant, with a strong sense of authenticity.
Each room features a comfortable seating area, minibar and cable TV, along with plush sofas, rich textiles and wooden wall panelling. Bathrooms are particularly striking, with free standing stone bathtubs that add to the sense of indulgence.
The attentive staff are happy to arrange massages, private guides or drivers, and airport transfers. Other facilities include a dining area, bar, spa and room service, ensuring everything you might need is taken care of during your visit.
Pros
- Only suites
- Excellent breakfast
- Exceptional, attentive service
- Peaceful atmosphere despite the central location
- Beautifully restored colonial building
Cons
- Some outside noise can occasionally be heard
- Is exclusive and in high demand – books out months in advance.

Luxury Hotel Palacio Nazarenas

Often described as a six star experience, Palacio Nazarenas stands well above other high end places, with prices that reflect its exceptional standard.
Of all the top overnight experiences from our founder, Palacio Nazarenas remains her clear favourite!
The beautifully detailed artwork and authentic colonial interiors are impressive, but what truly sets this one apart is how seamlessly these historic elements are paired with modern comforts. Every room features piped oxygen, making altitude related discomfort a non issue for guests.
Another standout feature is the heated swimming pool, one of the very few of its kind in the city. It is especially appreciated by families travelling with children, though even non swimmers will enjoy the added indulgence of private butler service that comes with the spacious, elegant suites.
All accommodation is arranged in suites, each suitable for couples or small families. Interiors are exceptionally generous in size, with walk in wardrobes, expansive bathrooms featuring a large shower and separate soaking tub, a combined living and sleeping area, and a private balcony.
The rooms are beautifully furnished, the beds are extremely comfortable, and nights are remarkably quiet. Several interior courtyards mean most rooms face inward, helping to block out street noise. The shared spaces are calm and tastefully designed, offering a peaceful retreat from the city outside.
Guests also have access to a range of outstanding facilities, including Mauka, where Peruvian and international dishes are served, a poolside bar for evening cocktails, and an excellent spa specialising in aromatherapy treatments using locally sourced ingredients.
Pros:
- Private butler service
- Spa specialising in aromatherapy
- Cusco’s best heated swimming pool
- Restaurant and poolside cocktail bar
- Piped oxygen wards off altitude sickness
Cons:
- High price tag

Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel

Set within a former 16th century monastery, Monasterio is one of Cusco’s most iconic places. The moment you step through its heavy wooden doors, the pace of the city fades away and you are surrounded by cloisters, courtyards and centuries of history. The building itself is a destination, filled with colonial artwork, carved stone arches and a sense of quiet grandeur.
Located just a few minutes’ walk from the main square, this place offers an excellent balance between central convenience and a calm, almost timeless atmosphere. The establishment is built around two internal courtyards, one of which features a striking cedar tree believed to be over 300 years old, adding to the unique character of the setting.
Rooms and suites reflect the historic nature of the former monastery, with high ceilings, original wooden beams and classic decor. While the style is more traditional than modern, comfort has not been compromised. Many rooms are equipped with piped oxygen, helping guests adjust more easily to Cusco’s altitude, and the overall soundproofing ensures restful nights.
Service is attentive and polished, with staff happy to assist with private guides, transfers or special requests. Dining here is a highlight as well, with refined local and international cuisine served in atmospheric surroundings, including one space set beneath a glass roof overlooking the courtyard.
Additional facilities include a peaceful spa offering a range of treatments inspired by Andean traditions, as well as elegant common areas where guests can relax after a day of exploring the city.
Pros
- Exceptional historic character
- Very central location within easy walking distance of Cusco’s main sights
- Some rooms feature piped oxygen to help with altitude adjustment
- Excellent on site dining in a truly unique setting
Cons
- Can be slightly more formal in atmosphere, which may not suit every traveller

After a long flight or a busy day discovering the city, the indoor thermal circuit pool, Turkish bath, dry sauna, Jacuzzi and spa treatments at the Andes Spirit Spa offer a perfect chance to unwind and recharge.
One of the features that truly stands out is how the establishment incorporates culture and local flavour into the guest experience. They offer a free guided tour inside the building – super interesting if you want to learn more about the building’s history and its blend of Inca and colonial heritage. During the week they sometimes host a Pisco sour class or even a cooking class depending on the time, which is a fun and immersive way to connect with Peruvian culture without leaving the hotel.

Tambo del Inka, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa

I love Tambo del Inka for its location right by the river and the wide-open views of the Sacred Valley. It feels very elegant but not stiff, and the spa is perfect after a long day of exploring. Aranwa Sacred Valley Hotel & Wellness

Aranwa Sacred Valley is a very luxurious hotel that has a charming, almost museum-like feel with its colonial architecture and antique details in the section built on the Hacienda Yaravilca. There is a sun heated swimming pool if you are interested in swimming.
