highlight: departing from the sacred valley's tourist route and visiting a unique agricultural and weaving community. trip description On this trip we visit rural communities to learn a little about their weaving and farming techniques. This is a really exceptional trip for those with an interest in having a glimpse of how the people of the Sacred Valley really live. This is a far cry from the relatively touristed Pisac and Urubamba. At the same time we will pass through some very picturesque countryside and have great views of jagged peaks against the skyline. We meet in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco at 8am, and take a public bus to the market town of Pisac. We will spend a short time looking around this fascinating market before taking a local combi to a village high up in the hills above the Pisac ruins. From here we begin our hike through pretty farmland to the village of Chawaytiri - if we pass by people working in the fields we might stop and talk to them about their farming practices. In Chawaytiri village there are people in the fields and in the village set up with their looms and they will be only too happy to explain the meaning of their weavings and their use of natural products to make dyes. Inevitably, a group of villagers will gather with their weavings and you will have the opportunity to buy some of these spectacularly woven items. The quality of the products offered is superb, so you cannot expect to get a "bargain" though you will meet the person who made your souvenir! We continue from the village uphill to visit some pre-Inca rock drawings before having lunch by the river. We then hike downhill by a different route for about 1.5 hours and take a combi back to Pisac. Time permitting, we will explore the market a little more before taking our bus back to Cusco. Departure: Plaza de Armas, Cusco 8am Return: 6.00pm to Plaza de Armas Hiking: Approximately 4 hours in total *You can join this tour with one of our other day tours for a fascinating visit to the Sacred Valley.
