We depart Cusco early in our private transport and travel to the Sacred Valley. First stop: the charming village of Pisaq, famous for the Pisac ruins and its lively market. We will spent a short time looking around this fascinating market before continuing high up in the hills above the Pisaq ruins, and far away from the tourist trail.
After this, we head to Chahuaytire, where there are people in the fields and women set up with their looms. They will be only too happy to explain the meaning of their Peruvian weaving and their use of natural products to make dyes. Inevitably, a group of villagers will gather with their weavings and you will have the opportunity to buy some of these spectacularly woven items. The quality of their Peruvian weaving is superb, so you cannot expect to get a “bargain” though you will meet the person who made your souvenir!
We continue from the village uphill to visit some pre-Inca petroglyphs before having a boxed lunch by the river. From here you have several options, which need to be organised at booking:
As we head downhill, we will visit the Pisac ruins where we will have a guided tour and some time to explore on our own. After this, we will return to Cusco by car, passing through Pisac and stopping at Awanacancha to see the llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, if there is time.
We pick you up at your hotel and head to Pisaq where there is a lively market which you can wander around. Then we take private transport to a point high above Chahuaytire. We will stop to see some pre-Inca petroglyphs before heading to the village of Chahuaytire where the locals will show us their Peruvian weaving techniques.
From here we will mountain bike downhill through typical Sacred Valley farmland before arriving at the Pisac Ruins in the mid-afternoon. The private car will accompany us all along the route and take tired bicycle riders! We will have a guided tour of the Pisac ruins and a little time to explore on our own. After this, we will return to Cusco by car, stopping at Awanacancha if there is time to see the llamas, alpacas and vicuñas.
