Change of Short Inca Trail route

Apus Peru > Uncategorized > Change of Short Inca Trail route

On the 14th March 2012, a bridge on the KM 104 of the Short Inca Trail route collapsed. We have not been informed when repairs will occur.

In the meantime, trekkers can enter via an alternative route at KM 106. Instead of visiting the archaeological site of Chachabamba (on the KM104 route) the visitors will be able to see the Choquesuisui archaeological site. The KM 104 route is always uphill, but at a relatively gentle incline. The Km 106 route is zig zag climb and steeper, and it takes about 3 hours to get to the WiñayWayna archaeological site. From Wiñay Wayna, the route follows the standard Inca Trail, into Inti Punku and the Sungate.
