About the Train to Machu Picchu 1D

Take the train to Machu Picchu! Machu Picchu, that famous Inca citadel located in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, is one of the world’s most well known archaeological sites. “Machu Picchu” is a compound Quechua word that means “old peak” or “old mountain”. The famous mountain that faces Machu Picchu, the one that appears in most of the classic views of the site, is Huayna Picchu, which means “young peak”.

Train to Machu Picchu 1D Itinerary

Travel by train to Machu Picchu! We will pick you up at your hotel early in the morning and transfer you to the train station in Ollantaytambo where you will travel by either the Expedition or Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes. In Aguas Calientes, we’ll take the bus up to Machu Picchu where we will enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu.

Your guide will give you a 2-3h walking tour of the historic citadel. After the tour, we return to Aguas Calientes by bus to have lunch and later in the evening you will catch the afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo, where we will transfer you back to Cusco, leaving you at your hotel.

The Expedition service is cheaper than Vistadome, but the advantage to the Vistadome is that it is faster, has a snack service, bigger windows and is generally a more comfortable experience.

Note that this tour does not include a ticket to climb Huayna Picchu or Machupicchu Mountain. Due to the timing of the trains on this one day train to Machu Picchu tour, it is actually not possible to arrive in time in order to complete these hikes.
